HINGERTY is one of the anglicised forms of ohlongardail which has for the most part become Harrington.

One of the earliest records for the surname is the Elizabethan Fiant 3082 in which John McTeige O'Hengerltye of Dunbeacon, Co Cork is described as alias Harrington in 1577
